How can a translation professional build their network?
Both old school and new school ways are effective. Old school…Go to conferences. Meet, greet, and exchange business cards. Give a talk at a conference. Write an article for a trade journal or newsletter. Register with the local chamber of commerce or business association. Join both the national and regional branches of the American Translators Association, as well as those for your specializations and/or industry. New school…Join the online translation groups such as Proz.com and the like. Participate in the forums and chats. Write a regular blog on a topic that will be interesting to people in the field. Build a good website with content that you update regularly. Make sure that you’ve done good SEO for your website and blog. Etc.
