Who Is Completing Online Translator Training and Why?
Our team recently conducted a small survey to find out two things.
- Who is completing online translator training programs and
- Why they are doing so
What we found was very interesting, here were the results.- The most frequent group of participants were not surprisingly early translation career professionals who were within their first 1-4 years within the industry and were looking to get their feet wet. The second group were students who were looking into possibly becoming a translator and the surprising group of professionals we heard from were the very experienced. It turns out some very successful translators realize that the more training, qualifications, and best practices they pick up the better they become and even though it may seem that they no longer need the training they are still completing it.
- The reasons why professionals within the translation industry are completing these programs were much more diverse. We have heard from people who are completing programs simply to improve their resume while others are completing the program because it was required by an employer that they work for. The most popular reason that translators completed the online translator training program however was for career advancement and increased compensation though. Like in most industries everyone would like to be paid a bit more and many professionals connect that their improved qualifications and training can lead towards higher compensation.
That being said, most translators can gain an edge within the industry by completing a translator certification program such as the Certified Translation Professional (CTP)
